I came across a cool little blog earlier, with an article pointing out the excellent use of the 12 animation principles in the 2D fighting game, 'Darkstalkers', by Japanese game developer Capcom.

There are some lovely examples of walk cycles, squash and stretch, and plenty of overlapping action. Well worth a read.
