Thought I'd better upload some of the life drawing I've done over the course of this module.

11 second update

Been beavering away for the last few days at this one. I think I'm getting there, but there are definitely issues that need addressing. There are a few timing blips, mainly with Mrs. Crawley, and of course I still need to get to grips with the prop constraints. Hopefully, another day or so working at it will fix it up nice.

Smear frames

I come from a 2D background, and I love using smears and getting some real squashy and stretchy action going when I use 2D techniques, and I think it's high time I learned how to implement such techniques in 3D. Fortunately, I found some handy tutorials, curtesy of animschool. I definitely want to experiment with smear frames in the final project, hopefully we'll be able to work them in somewhere...

Moving hold revision

Just revisiting some good old Keith Lango tutorials, brushing up on those moving holds, got a few going on in my 11 second piece.

Ryan Woodward - Bottom of the Ninth

I can't wait for this, veteran animator, Ryan Woodward, is releasing an animated graphic novel, in the form of an iOS app. Judging from the trailer, it looks incredible, merging two of my favourite things, comics, and animation. I've no interest in Baseball, but it looks so good I don't mind. Look put for it you iStuff this month!

David OReilly

I'm ashamed to say that I only recently discovered David OReilly. Multi award winning, his animations are probably some of the most surreal I've beer seen, and boy do I like them! The External World !WARNING NSFW!

I think what attracts me most to OReilly's work, is the fact his style pushes for a very unique aesthetic, that can only be achieved through the 3D CG medium, instead of trying to emulate reality, or even other more traditional styles. His strange, surreal, even twisted sense of humour appeals to me too, I admit, I've been stuck in a bit of a rut when it comes to film ideas, keeping to the conventional, and generally tame, but why not go wild like this? After all, what other film medium gives as much freedom to do so like animation? Please Say Something !BAD LANGUAGE!

OReilly's ballsy approach to film making has certainly gotten him noticed, clocking up over 80 awards for his films and contributions to the animation community. He's even directed a music video for the rock band U2. Love it.

11 second progress report.

Wow. So over the last 2 days, free from working on the mime piece, I've got a pretty solid linear pass of the first 200 or so frames. Mrs Crawley still needs work, but I'm happy with the way the Pro is coming along. I still need to change a few props, and sort out their constraints, then of course a full facial and finger pass, as well as general polish, but I'm feeling hopeful.
